Common Ground Store in Palo Alto Closes
by EA Staff

Common Ground Store in Palo Alto has closed
Common Ground Garden Supply and Education Center in Palo Alto, CA closed in October of 2014

We're sorry to announce that our Common Ground Garden Supply and Education Center in Palo Alto, California, closed its doors in October 2014, ending an era of local sustainable gardening activism that started in the early 1970s. There were many reasons for the closing, including more online purchasing of garden products and a multi-year construction project next door that reduced customer traffic. There was an outpouring of sadness and appreciation from the community on learning about the closing. The following is just one of many messages received by the store: “I am grateful that we had such an inspirational presence in our own community to help us become better gardeners and better global citizens in a fundamental way simply by placing our collective hands in the soil.”

Although the store has closed, EA’s Common Ground Research and Demonstration Garden is still open as a resource for the public. Sustainable gardening classes for children, teens, and adults will continue to be offered there. For more information and class schedules, go to commongroundgarden.org

For local organic gardeners who will miss the store's products, Bountiful Gardens, Ecology Action’s non-profit online organic seed, book and tool store at bountifulgardens.org, can help with future gardening needs.
